Small bore champions

4/07/2008 11:02:00 AM
ARARAT - Ararat Small Bore and Air Rifle Association members enjoyed their annual presentation night.

President Andrew Muller was the master of ceremonies for the evening, presenting the club trophies while donated trophies were presented by each individual donor.

Distinguished guests were Valerie and Reg McCready, who will fly to Beijing in August to watch their daughter and son-in-law compete for Australia in shooting events at the Olympics.

The McCready family have been members of the Small Bore and Air Rifle Association for decades and are still associated with the club today.

Their daughter Sue will shoot in the Air Rifle and 3x20 Sport Rifle events, while Daniel will shoot Air Pistol and Free Pistol.

Of the donated trophies, the Mick Walls perpetual went to Mark Pilgrim for his skills with the field scoped rifle, the second trophy donated by Paul Hogan was won by evergreen Mick Walls who showed his trusty CZ thin barrelled piece is still up to standard and the Graeme Powell donated trophy was won by Gary Brumby.

The final donor, Robbie Neil, presented his `spitter' 90 handicap trophy to president Andrew Muller.

The now historical `Brown-eye' trophies were presented by Kathleen Brown to scratch - Gary Brumby and handicap - Andrew Muller.

In the club awards the top scratch shooter was Gary Brumby who beat an improving Garry Keith and Andrew Muller to win while Captain Paul `Poppa' Hogan was the handicap champion, winning from John `Digger' Brown and Raymond Sloper.

The last trophy awarded for the night was everyone's favourite, a perpetual donated by Paul Hogan in the early 1980s for the most central bullseyes, Gary Brumby taking out the award this year to cap a big season for him.
