ARARAT - The late Butch Brasser has been honoured by the Ararat YMCA, which has named its Lap Legends Board in memory of the regular early morning swimmer.
The Butch Brasser Memorial Lap Legends Board was unveiled at a special breakfast at the YMCA attended by family members, friends, regular swimmers and YMCA staff.
The Lap Legends Board keeps tally of regular swimmers' lap count and is a talking point at the pool.
Butch, who died as result of an accident, was a regular early morning swimmer over a period of about 10 years. He was also fondly known for `hanging his speedos out to dry' after swimming during his breakfast break while doing his regular garbage truck run over many years.
As well as being a regular `lap legend', Butch was known for being an extremely strong swimmer and was always available to offer tips and words of encouragement to new swimmers, making many friends over the years, enjoying the social aspect as well.
The ceremony was attended by Butch's wife Jenny, daughter Lee and son Justin, regular lap swimmers and friends Brent Searle, David Hosking and Laura Reynolds, as well as other regular swimmers.
The idea for the lap legends board came about after the passing of Butch, when aquatics co-ordinator Kelli Felini received a request to update the board in honour of Butch.
Mrs Brasser had also taken a small photo of Butch to the YMCA, which was placed in the aquatics areas so that he could `watch over everyone'.
It was seen as appropriate that a new board be placed in the aquatics area in honour of Butch.
